Four things decide what an order is worth
- 01
What the buyer pays
Your selling price minus any discount you fund. TikTok's fees and affiliate commission are worked out on this amount, not your list price.
- 02
What TikTok and creators take
The referral fee is a percentage set by your category. Affiliate commission is the rate you offer creators, paid only on sales they bring in.
- 03
What you pay to fulfil it
Product cost and the shipping you cover. Leave out anything TikTok reimburses or the buyer pays.
- 04
What you spend to sell it
Ad spend per order. Break-even ROAS tells you the return your ads need before an ad-driven order stops losing money.
A worked example
A product sells for $30.00 with no discount and costs $9.00 to make. At a 6% referral fee TikTok takes $1.80. A creator on 10% commission takes $3.00, and shipping costs you $5.00. That leaves $11.20 profit per order, a 37.3% margin. If ads drive the sale, they need a ROAS of at least 2.68× to break even, which means spending no more than $11.20 on ads per order.
One order is a starting point. Real profit moves with refunds, settlement timing and costs that change from order to order, which is why sellers outgrow the spreadsheet and track it from TikTok’s own data instead.
TikTok Shop profit questions
Start with what the buyer pays for the item, which is your price minus any discount you fund. Take off TikTok's referral fee, the affiliate commission if a creator made the sale, the shipping you pay, what the product cost you, and any ad spend for that order. What's left is your profit per order.
The main one is the referral fee, a percentage of each completed order. The rate depends on your product category and region, and TikTok updates it from time to time, so check the current referral fee table in Seller Center for your category. Affiliate commission is separate: you set it per product and pay it only on sales a creator brings in.
A discount you fund yourself lowers the amount the referral fee is charged on. Tax and shipping are not included in it. Discounts that TikTok funds are generally still counted, so check your fee breakdown in Seller Center if you run platform promotions.
It's the return on ad spend you need just to cover your costs: the order value divided by your profit before ads. If your ads return less than that, each ad-driven order loses money. The calculator also shows the most you can spend on ads per order before you start losing money.
The calculator models one typical order. Real payouts also move with refunds and returns, settlement timing and reserves, and costs that vary from order to order. Seller Sync tracks all of that from your actual TikTok Shop data, order by order, in its Profit & Loss dashboard.
Yes. Every sample costs you the product and the postage to send it, and a creator's sample order brings in no sale. Add the samples you send each month to see your profit after them.

Seller Sync's Profit & Loss dashboard does this math on your actual TikTok Shop data: every fee, refund, commission and ad dollar, down to net profit, per product and per shop.
